The first Durangoko euskal Liburu eta Disko Azoka was held in 1965. It was one of the first events organised by the recently founded Gerediaga Elkartea. Under the Franco dictatorship, the fair had one main objective: to publicise the literary and record production of the Basque Country. In addition, Gerediaga Elkartea strove to ensure that during those days Durango became a meeting place for the different sectors of Basque cultural activity.
Durango, little by little, beyond books and records, has become a meeting place for the different agents of Basque culture.
