Are you ready for an enchanting literary journey to the northernmost Dutch island, Schiermonnikoog? Meet Me at the Lighthouse (MMATL), a captivating literary festival, invites writers, poets, thinkers, and literature enthusiasts to a dynamic program filled with recitals, discussions, night walks, and reading clubs.

The festival delves into themes such as nature, ecology, tourism, and identity, sparking insightful conversations and artistic inspiration.

This year, MMATL festival will take place from November 9th to 12th, 2023, at various unique locations across the island. Renowned figures like author and journalist Adriaan van Dis, philosopher and writer Eva Meijer, poet Myron Hamming, and writer-gardener Mariken Heitman are among the distinguished names featured in the program.

MMATL also includes LIT-UP 2nd workshop (1st workshop was celebrated in Torino BookFair) , featuring performances by international authors from partner regions and offering a range of activities for industry professionals.

LIT-UP aims to boost the international skills of local authors and publishers therefore, they can engage in B2B meetings with fellow professionals and participate in a special workshop scheduled for Friday, November 10th. This will be split into 2 sessions:

  • Session 1: ‘National and International Book and Author Promotion in the Netherlands’. This session will feature insights from Mireille Berman, representing the Dutch Foundation for Literature, along with writer and poet Tsead Bruinja and writer and poet Nyk de Vries. Gain valuable knowledge about promoting books and authors on both national and international stages.
  • Session 2: ‘Literary Promotion in Friesland’. Join Ernst Bruinsma from Books of Fryslân, writer Anita Terpstra, and children’s book ambassador Tialda Hoogeveen for a fascinating discussion on literary promotion in Friesland. Explore the rich literary culture of this region and discover the stories waiting to be told.
